The students get an idea of major types of smart cards, their architecture and peculiarities.
The lecture describes the following:
- key characteristics of smart cards and new peculiarities in comparison with magnetic stripe cards;
- physical structure of smart cards of different types (contact, contactless, combined and hybrid cards);
- smart card memory types (ROM, RAM, EEPROM) and their purpose;
- logical structure and capabilities of proprietary, MULTOS, Java и GlobalPlatform cards;
- key peculiarities of Visa certified proprietary and GlobalPlatform cards and applets.
The lecture also covers the guidelines for choosing a smart card type, an overview of the current proprietary GlobalPlatform cards and applications market.
